Anchor Bands® in Nurseries
Anchor Bands® have been used by wholesale nursery growers for 30 years. Made of natural latex Anchor Bands® are designed to prevent damage to plants by stretching to accommodate plant growth. The natural rubber is gentle on the plants but grips stakes or wire trellis, securing the plant well.
Unlike some synthetic copies Anchor Bands® have a built in life span and will degrade before causing damage to the plant.
Anchor Bands® are a natural, sustainable choice compared to synthetic copies that are not made for this purpose. Beware of imitations that will damage your plants and are not environment friendly. Do your part and insist on natural, original Anchor Bands®.
The most common size of Anchor Bands® used in nurseries are a No. 8 Vine and also a No. 10. Cartons consist of 15 x 1kg packets with approximately 1,100 ties per kg.
Fixing Methods
The method you use is only limited by your imagination.
- Standard fixing as in 1st image is to wrap band around the plant and fix to the stake or trellis.
- Diagonal fixing, is done on trellis as in fourth image, Essentially the same as standard.
- Buffer fix Cross- Over. As term suggest before fixing plant to stake or wire you twist Anchor Band® around stake or wire first then fix plant. This provides a buffer to protect the plant from the stake or trellis.
- Figure of 8; is used to secure a stake to the wire trellis. Anchor Bands® grip very well to wire and so greatly reduce sliding of stake or plant on trellis. Unlike, plastic clips and ties that slide easily, sawing, cutting plant.
